main concepts of the films

 MAIN CONCEPTS OF THE FILMS------------

The directors of Studio Ghibli likes to put storys or situations inspired from their own lives such as; damages done by fire or atomic bombs, a child with sick parents, orphan kids, war... These aspects can be gathered to general themes:

ENVIRONMENTALISM

Nausicaa of the Valley of the wind (1984)
Studio Ghibli films spotlight environmentalism, emphasizing, respecting and preserving the natural world. Almost in every Studio Ghibli film there is a natural place that is seen as the characters peaceful and safe place. For example in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984) rest of the characters want to destroy the forest so they can build life from the begining with no monsters (they live in the forest ther are sort of like big bugs) but the main character Nausicaa believes that the people and the monsters can live in peace together and she stands up for what she believes in and succeeds.
Princess Mononoke (1997)

Also in Princess Mononoke (1997) San a girl who was raised by three strong wolf spirits fights to protect humans and any other creature from stepping afoot in the forest and disturb the forest sprit.



FRIENDSHIP

Friendship is another recurring theme that shines brightly in Studio Ghibli in films. The characters tend to team up and succeed in their mission. There can also be seen friendships between the main character and their side kick animal/creature.

-Mei, Satsuki and Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro)
-Askitaka and Yakul (Princess Mononeke)
-Nausicaa and Teto (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind)

-Chihiro and Haku (Spirited Away)
-Seji and the shops cat (Whisper of the Heart)
-Arren and Therru (Tales From Earthsea)

FAMILY

The family theme holds a special place in Studio Ghibli films, capturing the warmth, complexity and love within the family. For example My Neighbor Totoro is and film that portrays this theme. 
My Neighbor Totoro (1985)
The story revolves around two young sisters, Satsuki and Mei, who move to the countryside with their father while their mother recovers from an illness. They encounter a lovable forest spirit named Totoro as they explore their new surroundings. My Neighbor Totoro is film that reminds us of the strength and joy fond within our own families.



JAPANESE HISTORY AND WAR

Studio Ghibli films often explore Japanese history and the impact of war, delving into the complexities of the past, offering unique perspectives and thought-provoking storytelling.
The Grave of Fireflies (1988)

Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
 
is an emotionally charged film set during World War II. It follows the story of two siblings, Seita and Setsuko, who are struggling to survive the destruction caused by the war. The film explores the harsh realities faced by innocent civilians, capturing the toll of conflict and the strength of the human spirit. 


The Boy and The Heron (2023)
The Boy and The Heron (2023) is a film about a kid named Mahito whom has a sick mother. He witnesses his mothers hospital burn from an atomic bomb that was stricked because of the war in front of his eyes. As the city burns to flames him and his father move to his aunts house in an another city. His father marries his aunt and he has to accept the fact that her mother is gone and has a new one now which he struggles. He keeps getting visions of his mother and goes to investigate in an mythical world and find about his mother.

LOVE

Love, in all its forms, is a powerful and captivating theme that weaves its way through Studio Ghibli films, touching the hearts of audiences.Howl’s Moving Castle (2005)  is one film that beautifully portrays the theme of love.
